Since 2021, EU APSM II provided support to Afghan and regional actors at local and national levels to meaningfully engage in peace-building. After the Taliban take-over, EU APSM II made flexible adjustments to the new challenging context and re-oriented its efforts to actively identify feasible activities that continued to empower Afghan and regional actors to engage in peace-building support.

Among the initiatives supported by EU APSM II was ”Voices of the Afghan People”, an Afghan civil society initiative that provided a platform for more inclusive dialogue among Afghans on developments in Afghanistan. The platform managed to host several large dialogues and consultations with representatives of all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

With the support of the project, the Afghan civil society organisation “The Liaison Office” conducted several dialogue events in Kunduz, Herat, Khost and Kabul, focusing on how inclusivity is crucial in working for a sustainable and stable future in Afghanistan.

EU APSM II supported a comprehensive capacity building programme and set up a legal helpline for the Afghan diaspora in Islamabad.

As part of the project, the Afghan organisation “Center for Conflict and Peace Studies” provided pro-bono legal assistance to detainees held under Taliban custody.
