The hidden benefits of the EU Election Observation Mission in Malawi - many smiles!

donation

Pupils at the Music Crossroad and Sesroy Music Academy in Lilongwe, Malawi, found a lovely surprise when they came to school last week. Computers, printers and smartphones, furniture and medical kits were provided to the school, which works for the social inclusion of children from rural areas.

The Paralegal Advisory Service Institute and the Samaritan Trust in Blantyre as well as the Network for Youth development in Lilongwe were equally happy when a literal truckload of furniture, computers, printers and office equipment was loaded off at their premises. And so were the Chilanga School for Blind in Kasungu and the Prison Fellowship in Balaka, which provides rehabilitation programmes for detainees.

The gifts came from the European Union Election Observation Mission deployed to Malawi for the May 2019 tripartite elections involving a team of 110 observers and support staff. All the mission equipment was donated to local NGOs promoting democratic values – and as can be seen in the photos, provoked many smiles!
