The Coronavirus outbreak impacts us all. It affects life in our cities in many different ways: from social cohesion, over mobility and housing, to solid waste management. At the same time, local and regional governments are in the frontline to tackle the outbreak and ensure the health and wellbeing of their residents. Local leaders have reacted swiftly with measures to support citizens in health, social and economic terms.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a new phenomenon. It requires interregional and international cooperation to exchange knowledge and to support the global adoption of successful strategies. Under the Partnership Instrument’s International Urban Cooperation (IUC) programme, the EU connects European cities and their foreign counterparts to exchange their best practices in fighting and adapting to COVID-19. Background
The International Urban Cooperation (IUC) programme enables cities in different global regions to link up and share solutions to common problems. It is part of a long-term strategy by the European Union to foster sustainable urban development. The IUC programme, financed under the Partnership Instrument of the European Union, is an opportunity for local governments to learn from each other, set ambitious targets.
The Partnership Instrument enables the EU to advance its strategic interests, shape global change and promote its fundamental values. Through the Partnership Instrument, the EU cooperates with partners around the world to address global challenges and find joint solutions to issues of mutual interest.
