The IGF will focus on the role of the multistakeholder community in promoting the Declaration for the Future of the Internet (DFI), an international commitment endorsed by more than 60 countries in support of an open, free, global, interoperable, reliable and secure internet. Launched on 28 April 2022, the DFI defines universally shared principles that re-emphasise the potential of the Open Internet to reinforce democracy, social cohesion, human rights, and economic growth and development.
The workshop will serve as a platform for stakeholders to explore ways to translate the principles of the DFI into concrete policies and actions. Participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on internet governance and other key issues.
The workshop is one of the activities under the “Promotion and development of the Open Internet in Africa”, a project funded by the European Union (EU). The same project is behind the recently published report “The Open Internet as cornerstone of digitalisation”, which presents fresh data on the global advantages of internet openness and identifies concrete opportunities for digital partnerships between Africa and the EU.
The workshop can be followed online on the website of the IGF.
