TAIEX-Partnership Instrument Regional Workshop on Venezuelan Migration, Bogotá – Colombia, 12-13 November 2019

The objective of this Regional TAIEX Workshop falls within the context of the unprecedented migratory flows that stem from the crisis in Venezuela, which is pushing regional countries to come up swiftly with national and regional solutions. In this context, Latin American and Caribbean countries are coordinating their efforts through the creation of a dedicated group, El Grupo del Proceso de Quito.

This regional TAIEX Workshop aims to give continuity to a first workshop, which was organised in Brussels on 12-14 June 2019 and had as objective the exchange of best practices on European migration and legislation between experts from the EU and Members States and most affected Latin American and Caribbean countries.

The current workshop will focus on a more concrete aspect pertaining to the exchange of best practices for the creation of a regional system to exchange information and provide services for Migrants (a Migrant Information Card). The TAIEX experts will come from the French Ministry of the Interior, the Belgian Federal Police, UNHCR and DG HOME. The EU Member States experts will share their experience on harmonisation of information at migrants’ arrival and data networks, mainly EURODAC. DG HOME will present the EU Integrated Political Crisis Response (IPCR) platform and UNHCR will exchange experience on a pilot action in Greece, funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union, created to provide cash assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. The TAIEX experts will additionally take part in the preparatory discussions ahead of the V Quito Process Meeting.

Participants will include experts from EU Member States, staff of EU institutions, representatives of international organisations (IOM and UNHCR), and delegates from the Quito Process Group.

The event is organised by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX) and funded by the Partnership Instrument (PI).
