On 11 and 12 June, a delegation representing the European Peace Facility (EPF) Committee travelled to the Republic of Moldova. The delegates met with the country’s Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi and oversaw the reception of newly delivered EPF-funded equipment in the form of ambulances and medical tents.
Moldova is the second biggest recipient of the EPF support after Ukraine. Since 2021, four assistance measures were adopted under the EPF for Moldova totalling EUR 128 million. These aim to ensure the provision of relevant equipment to enhance the defence and cyber capabilities of the Moldovan Armed Forces.
Further cementing this support, on 13 June the Council of the European Union adopted the fifth assistance measure supporting the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova, pledging additional EUR 9 million.
The range of equipment provided to Moldova so far covers medical units, such as ambulances and medical tents, engineering equipment and demining suits, blasting machines and protective equipment and air surveillance equipment.
In the coming months, logistics, command and control, tactical communications and cyber-defence units of the Moldovan Armed Forces will receive EPF-funded equipment and training, ensuring a comprehensive modernisation of the nation's defence infrastructure.
