In Sudan, FPI is supporting UNMAS to help people safely return home and enable recovery in areas affected by explosive ordnance. Following successful mobilisation, a multi-task capacity was deployed in Khartoum in June 2026, comprising two survey and clearance teams and one EORE team. The teams have already surveyed and cleared priority areas, including Dar Al Salam and Khartoum International Airport.
Through EORE, UNMAS has reached 17,535 people, including students, teachers, community members, airport personnel and construction workers, helping them recognise risks and adopt safer behaviour. Mine action coordination has also been strengthened through engagement with national and operational partners. Together, these efforts are helping restore safe access to critical infrastructure and essential services for civilians, humanitarian actors and returnees in areas increasingly accessible after conflict, while laying the groundwork for wider recovery and reconstruction.
