For the EU, this is a unique opportunity to strengthen its links with this region and to present the best of its current production to a demanding and receptive audience. The world's largest event for Spanish-language edition will be held from 25 November to 3 December 2023.

This year, as guest of honour, the EU wishes to share with the Mexican and Latin American public the cultural diversity and values that unite Europe. Framed by the motto "Building a union of cultures", which pays tribute to the diversity of cultures in Europe, the EU is also proposing to strengthen strong cultural links between the two regions and to raise awareness of its values through the best of its literature, theatre, music, visual arts, and cinema.

From 25 November to 3 December, the delegation of authors (more than 70 from 27 EU Member States and Ukraine), publishers and artists present at the FIL will become spokespersons for the EU's cultural diversity, laying the foundations for a closer and more up-to-date relationship with the South American continent and the rest of the world.

The EU pavilion - 1300 mts² in a central position within FIL premises - will be inaugurated on the first day of the fair with an opening concert by the EUYO Brass and percussion ensemble. This common house will be the epicentre of cultural meetings, debates with the public, concerts, readings, workshops, and book presentations in the presence of many artists and authors from 27 EU countries, but also from the rest of the world.

Alongside the EU’ extensive literary programme, the rich artistic programme includes musical and theatre performances, a European film festival, various visual arts exhibitions, as well as a gastronomic programme.

A special programme has also been designed for younger audiences with workshops, activities and readings of children's fairy tales from the European anthology, which will showcase the art of illustration in Europe.
