During a formal ceremony attended by Ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, Deputy Chief of Staff for Equipment, Brigadier General Engineer Tony Abboud, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Oussama Khachab, and EU Member State representatives, six ambulances were handed over to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
The equipment is part of a European Peace Facility (EPF) Assistance Measure agreed by the EU Council on 22 December 2022 in Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2356.
The objective of the EU’s military assistance is to strengthen the capabilities and the resilience of the LAF to ensure the national security and stability of Lebanon, through the enhancement of their military medical capacities, and the provision of equipment for the LAF’s operational personnel.
EPF assistance to Lebanon aims to boost Lebanese defence capacities and reinforce the European Union’s security and defence cooperation with Lebanon. Further equipment under the EPF will be delivered to Lebanon in 2024 including medical equipment, and individual equipment for soldiers.
