Global exchange of best practices on sustainable urban development

City governments from different EU Member States have paired up with peers from countries across global regions (Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, East Asia, and South Asia) facing similar sustainable development challenges. Through their engagement in the IUC, cities have the chance to share and exchange knowledge with their international counterparts, building a greener, more prosperous future.

The International Urban Cooperation (IUC) programme has just published a report on best practices in sustainable urban development and climate action. The report highlights the work that cities and regions have done together to discover which solutions work across various contexts.

Since 2017 the IUC programme, funded by the EU's Partnership Instrument, has brought together 165 cities and towns under its city-to-city programme to cooperate on sustainable urban development. Its activities support the achievement of policy objectives as well as major international agreements on urban development and climate change, such as the EU Urban Agenda, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Agreement.
