The EU project supports the restoration of state authority in conflict-torn Central African Republic. This is even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project implemented with CIVIPOL has adapted to new needs to slow down the spill-over of infections into Central African Republic. Concretely, it enabled police and gendarmerie to take the following actions:
- Redeploy staff along the main transport routes in the country;
- Provide staff with masks and re-usable gloves;
- Provide 60 portable radios to facilitate crisis communication.
Moreover, the project is currently preparing a “crisis management” room for the police to relay and process information from the Inter-ministerial Centre for Operational Coordination based in Bouar (located halfway between Béloko and Bangui).
All of these actions are coordinated with the Delegation of the European Union in the Central African Republic and financed by the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace.
