On 1-2 June, the European External Action Service in cooperation with the European Commission hosted a consultation event on the EU's future Arctic policy. Nearly 140 high-level and influential speakers and participants from academia and research, local, regional, national and international politics, the business sector and non-governmental organisations were in attendance. For the list of speakers and participants, see here.

The conference was financed from the Partnership Instrument

The conference focussed on three cross-cutting issues that have so far been at the centre of the EU's engagement in the Arctic. Speakers from across the above-mentioned stakeholder groups were invited to give presentations outlining their recommendations for the EU's future role in the following three intervention areas:

  1. Environmental protection, climate change and knowledge
  2. Sustainable development
  3. International cooperation

After each set of speakers, the conference's moderator led a lively and informed debate between panellists and audience members. The conference can be watched in full both by participants and members of the public here.
